💬 Quote of the Week
When you’re under the gun, and that stressy voice whispers, “You don’t have time for meditation,” ignore it.
The busyness of life will always try to hijack your peace of mind.
Dynamic action is always—without exception—rooted in dynamic rest. On my highest-demand days, I prioritize my meditations with even more urgency, knowing it will carry me through the chaos.

Subscribe Now🛋 Dear Susan: I am interested in meditation, but I don’t know where to start. Any tips?
Here are three easy ways to get started that will set a great foundation for a daily meditation practice:
Tip #1: Explore Different Types of Meditation
One of the most important aspects of meditation is enjoying it enough to practice every day. To enjoy it, you need to find a style of meditation that you genuinely like.
Ask yourself these two questions:
- Is the meditation practice itself enjoyable?
- Do I feel better after meditating?
Once you find a style where you answer “yes” to both, you’ll have built the foundation for a solid daily practice.
Tip #2: Explore One Type of Meditation at a Time
Blending meditation techniques can dilute their effectiveness, so it’s best to identify one that interests you and give it a dedicated try.
Tip #3: Stick to It for 4-6 Weeks
Just like exercise, meditation doesn’t yield immediate results. Give any technique you’re trying a fair chance, and then evaluate if it’s making a positive impact on your life.
💫 The Vedic Spin: My Favorite Quote on Workplace Wellness
Ever consider what you’d say to your former boss if you ran into them on the street? You know, the one who pushed you so hard that, looking back on your 20s and 30s, you realize most nights involved eating dinners with plastic utensils out of styrofoam boxes at your desk and staying at the office until 1 am, waiting for legal to approve deal docs.
Then, after the docs are approved, you get home and in bed by 2 am, only to wake up at 6 am and hoof it back to the office for your 7 am meeting. Day after day after day??
When I think of some of the long stretches of excruciating work I was put through, I imagine channeling my inner Charlotte:
It’s not that I regret those experiences. Not in the least. I loved that time in my life. I met some of my very best friends at work and had amazing bosses (Emil, I’m looking at you!).
And, through all those hours of hard work, I got really good at my craft.
What I do wish is that there was something I could have turned to during those endless workdays to boost my energy and spirit to keep going.
Encouraging meditation at work is good for morale, productivity, and the bottom line. But most importantly, meditation is a tool for all of us human BEINGS (not just doings!) to recharge, reset, and continue giving our best at work without burning out.
My teacher’s teacher had a great quote that I’ve often thought about printing roughly 10 billion copies of and dropping them off around all the offices in Midtown Manhattan:
“No employer has the right to get workers fresh in the morning and send them home tired at night. Just give them 15-20 minutes of meditation and send them home fresh in the evening.”
– Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
I was lucky enough to find meditation on my own, and as a direct result of my practice, I continued to have my best years on Wall Street, both professionally and personally.
