In my BVM Days (Life-Before Vedic Meditation), my internal thought loops were constantly peppered with the dreaded three-letter word: W-H-Y.
This question spawned a thousand variations in my stressed-out mind: Hmmm, why? WHY?!!!! SERIOUSLY, WHYYYYYYY C’mon, I give up, WHY. Just tell me now!
I was constantly wondering why things were happening to me (that I didn’t want), why things weren’t happening fast enough (according to my timeline), and why I kept feeling blindsided (when life refused to follow my script).
You know the drill.
Back then, life wasn’t cooperating with my expectations, so there was a symphony of WHY’ing happening 24/7.
Now, in my AVM-era (Life-After-Vedic-Meditation), my mind is calm enough and my nervous system regulated enough that I have the freedom and spaciousness to answer that frantic question with a single, powerful word:
EVOLUTION.

Here are THREE brain-melting facts about this supercomputer between your ears:

With perspective, a steady meditation practice, and enough life experience to connect the dots, I feel confident in that one-word answer:
EVOLUTION.
Evolution is why it’s happening.
Evolution is why anything is happening.
Evolution is why everything is happening.
With meditation, we release the stress and worry that blocks us from zooming out and gaining perspective.
In that spaciousness, we begin to make out the constellation of cause and effect and the roadmap to progress.
Without the white-knuckled “my plan is the only thing I can rely on” mentality, we open to the possibility that everything happens for all the right reasons, guiding our greatest evolution.
Meditators often ask if this one-word answer feels satisfying.
It’s not about satisfaction.
Even when I feel pangs of sadness or wonder about “what could have been,” I continue moving toward greater progress because that’s how it’s always been, and that’s how it will always be. That knowingness feels complete, correct, and true.
And having that as my baseline? That feels like freedom.
